Michigan deputies free 6-point buck trapped in wire fence
CEDAR, MI - Officials from multiple agencies worked together to free a buck that was trapped in a wire fence in Northern Michigan.
The incident occurred in Leelanau County's Solon Township at 12:25 p.m. on Nov. 21 when Leelanau County Animal Control deputy Wayne Kalchik responded to a residence on County Road 651 south of Cedar.
It was there that a 6-point buck was trapped due to its antlers getting tangled in heavy wire fencing. The deer was thrashing back and forth to free itself, according to police.
Kalchik and the property owner attempted to free the deer but were unsuccessful until Leelanau County Sheriff's deputy Scott Robinson arrived with bolt cutters. The trio cut a portion off the deer's antlers to free it from the fence.
The confused buck was unharmed and ran off into the woods, according to police.
"I can't thank these fine men and women enough for what they do on a daily basis," said Sheriff Michael Borkovich. "The risk their lives to help our citizens and visitors with public service while keeping law and order as their top priority."
