Owner furious that nails were placed along top of fence to keep dog from climbing
A Texas dog owner is upset after nails appeared on a fence his dog frequently climbs.
Brandon Gauntt, of League City, told ABC 30 he recently welcomed a new dog, Sky, to his home. However, he was surprised to discover that Sky likes to climb.

He was shocked when a neighbor showed him a picture of Sky on top of the fence between their properties. Neighbors were concerned and contacted landlord Percy Smith.
"The dog climbed the fence while you're working in the backyard with the dog sitting 6-foot-six above your head," Smith said. "It's a pretty threatening position to be at."
In an attempt to stop the climbing, Smith put sharp nails in a plank of wood on top of the fence. He said he did so because his tenants also have dogs and a baby on the way.
"You can't shoot the dog, you can't injure him, so you find a way to block him without injuring him and that's what this was," Smith said.
Gauntt was furious when he realized the nails had been put in place.
"God forbid she jumped up there and got her paw stuck, and my children come home and find their dog stuck on the fence, impaled," Gauntt said. "This is something that is something that is fairly barbaric to me."
Gauntt called police and removed the planks. The city said the nails break an ordinance.
Smith said he will consider putting up a higher fence. Gauntt doesn't think the nails were ever a reasonable option.
"It shouldn't come to this," Gauntt said. "It shouldn't have never come to this."
