Taser used on alleged pot smoker who runs from Wyandotte police
Some people wear their heart on their sleeve.
A guy recently arrested in Wyandotte prefers wearing marijuana leaves on his pants.
The strong odor of marijuana is what brought a 24-year-old Taylor man to the attention of an officer at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sept. 19 near the intersection of Fort Street and Eureka Road.
The officer had his windows rolled down and smelled burning marijuana emitting from the air. The man was sitting next to a tree, smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette. Police note he was wearing black jeans with marijuana leaves on them.
As the officer drove past, the man walked into the Walgreens parking lot, stared at the officer and began waving his hands in the air.
As the officer stepped out of his patrol vehicle, the man began to walk away. The officer asked what he was doing, and told him not to run away. However, he disregarded the officer’s command and ran into the backyard of a house in the 3200 block of 22nd Street.
He jumped a fence and the officer pulled out a Taser, pointed it at the man and told him to get to the ground. At the time, the officer was on the other side of a metal fence.
The man did not comply, so the officer discharged the Taser. After the man fell to the ground the officer jumped the fence and was able to make the arrest. Three additional officers assisted with the arrest.
He was charged with resisting and obstructing police. He also was wanted on a probation violation warrant issued by the Taylor Police.
