When police were called to the city’s rural west end by the report of a child’s call for help, it turned out to be a tale in which a “four-legged kid had a baaaad day.”
A resident called in the early evening of Jan. 27 to report what sounded like a distressed youngster in a wooded area in the north end of his property.
Officers searched in the dark but heard and found nothing.
A neighbour said she could account for all three of her children but her husband returned while police were there and explained his goat had been screaming after getting its head stuck in a fence.
The farmer, who said the sound could be mistaken for a child’s screams, showed officers the spot where it happened – exactly where the caller heard the suspicious sound.
“All kidding aside, police are reminding residents to report suspicious activity immediately so we can check it out,” the Ottawa Police Service said. “It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”
