Just over a month after he was arrested in Lawrence County, a man climbed a fence and escaped from jail this morning, the authorities said.John Allen York should be considered “dangerous,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The 28-year-old is described by the authorities as 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 120 pounds.
When York escaped around 2 a.m., another inmate was apprehended, said Chris Waldrep, a sheriff’s office spokesman. Tracking dogs from the Alabama prison system are helping search for York, Waldrep said, “and every effort is being made to find the escaped inmate.”
York had been in jail since Sept. 23 of charges of possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, burglary, receiving stolen property, attempting to elude police and two counts of theft, according to the sheriff’s office.
“An internal investigation is also being conducted to determine the exact circumstances that led to the escape and more information will be release(d) when that investigation is concluded,” Waldrep said in the press release.
